Food (Complementary food and individual cooking)
· The supplementary food issue to all Vanni IDP camps is the major activity for the month of June 2009 as relief activities.
· This supplementary food issue is very successful with dry ration from WFP, thereby nutrition and satisfaction is achieved among IDPs.
· Most of the IDPs are costal area people as such issuing fish for 3 days satisfied them.
· The GA and the authorities concentrate on communal cooking but faced difficult in manipulating. For example at Ramavila camp a kitchen supported on more than 1200 people. Therefore it creates some problems.
· We insist to individual cooking but the authorities are not willing to accept because they anticipate fire risk.
· Distribution is difficult task. We utilize 2 vehicles in this programme. But due to the distance and other distributional time factors unable to distribute the items in time. Thereby in some camps having their lunch only after 3 o’clock.
Distribution of nutritious food for children/elders
· Beginning of this month the prices are little high. After the government allows fishermen for deep sea fishing the prices are reduced and the total cost may decrease in future.
· We had issued 500 packet of samoposha for pregnant women and feeding mothers.
Distribution of NFRI
· At the request of the kopay camp commander we issued 20 school bags, 8 shoes and 125 exercise books to the IDP school children at Kopay camp.
