GENERAL
- Local newspapers were set on fire at kannathiddy and
Aanaipanthi.
- The Municipal council election in Jaffna and Vavuniya
is on the 8th of August 09.
- The bishop of Jaffna
emphasizes that the solution to the conflict should be acceptable to
everyone and dignified.
FOOD AND NON-FOOD ITEMS
- Local produce has been
sent to the South in the heavy vehicles.
- The prices of sea food in
the Islands are decreasing.
- The price of an egg increases up to Rs.20.
EDUCATION
- There is a change in the calendar of dates of schools.
HEALTH
- There is a special unit for the consultation regarding
swine flu at Jaffna teaching hospital. The public are requested to be
cautious about swine flu.
- There are risks of cancer because of the excessive
usage of chemicals in Jaffna.
MISSING AND ARREST
- The fishermen arrested by the security forces have
been released.
- A young girl, an employee
of ICRC, has been murdered at Point Pedro.
- 120 Tamil political
prisoners have requested the president to release them.
- An infant has been found dead wrapped inside a gunny
bag.
- The 3 LTTE cadres detained at Vakarai have been
produced to the court.
- 2 LTTE cadres are said to have been arrested at
Chettikulam.
- The media person Krishni Kandasamy Irfam has been
abducted and released.
- A religious preacher who has gone to Colombo for a
conference goes missing.
- TULF parliamentarian Sathasivam Kanagaratnam is still
detained.
- 3 persons who came to Colombo from Vavuniya IDP camps
have been arrested.
- 17 Tamils have been arrested in Wellawatte in
suspicion.
INTERNALLY DISPLACED PEOPLE
- The Bishop of Jaffna has requested not to postpone the
resettlement of the IDPs.
- A Children’s home is declared open for the orphans
among the IDPs at Vavuniya.
- The children at transitional camps are malnourished.
- It is reported there are no enough financial
facilities to look after the IDPs at Vavuniya.Even provision of food is very
difficult next month.
- 129 lasses at Vavuniya welfare camps have been handed
over to “Arulaham” children’s home.
