Children Homes at Uruthirapuram 'AROPANAM' Boys' Home - Uruthirapuram Orphans and children who lost either father or mother due to war and from very poor families are looked after at Aropanam boys home at Urithirapuram. Urithirapurm is a small village situated in the Kilinochchi district, the Vanni region. This Aropanam boys' home was started in the year 1954 and during the wartime in 1996 the inmates were displaced Thenniankulam. Three years ago the home was reopened and presently 86 war affected and tsunami-affected children are taken care of. Children of this home who are in Grade 4 to GCE (A/L) attend the near-by St.Fatima Vidiyalayam. Aropanam home is situated far away from the main town of Kilinochchi and the main A-9 road. Most of the buildings housing these children are damaged due to war and need more repairs. Rev.Fr. Eric Roshan, is in-charge of this home and Rev.Fr.Jude Amalathas is assisting him. If the buildings are repaired more children could be accommodated. The children are living now in the windowless, door less dormitories. Some window and door openings are covered with Tin sheets. Holy Family Girls home - Uruthirapuram In this girls' home 72 girls with the age group between 5 to 21 (orphans and very poor children who are war victims and tsunami victims) are looked after by Holy Family nuns. These girls attend near by St. Fatima Vidiyalayam. The buildings of this orphanage are badly damaged and now are under repairs. Reporting Unit |
