The World Food Programme and ICRC have stopped certain of their services from the 11th of August 2006 in Mullaitivu, Kilinochchi and Jaffna. The farmers of the peninsula have requested the Government Agent to make necessary arrangements for them to get fertilizer for the Maha crop at subsidised prices. Electricity supply in Delft has been interrupted once again as the repaired generator has gone out of order again. Business places and workshops in the Jaffna division will be issued fuel permits. FOOD, NON-FOOD ITEMS The Govt. has announced that the third phase of the issue of food items would commence after the unloading from ‘Ruhunu’ is completed. The Govt. Agent has once again warned the Bakery owners that severe action would be taken against the bakery owners who do not abide by his instructions. The Commissioner General of Essential services has informed that one ship loading food items in Trincomalee will leave for Jaffna on the 25th and the other ship on the 30th. He further added that sending food items to the private trade by ships is also under consideration. The department of health has made arrangements to issue 2 Kg. of Corn-soya each to pregnant women and lactating mothers. Arrangements have also been made to bring three months requirements by ship. Samurthi relief will be provided to 1,090 families and displaced to 970 families in Kayts. The remaining 940 families will be issued relief through a system of list. TRAVEL & VEHICLES The Jaffna students union has requested the Govt. Agent to make necessary arrangements for the students from the other districts to go to their own places. Entry to the Islands was not permitted on the 20th Sept. There has been no bus service to Pungudutivu for the last one week. The co-ordinator for Civil Affairs has requested government servants requiring passage on ships to register their names at 8.a.m. on the 22nd and those proceeding abroad on scholarship had been asked to register their names at 8 a.m. on 23rd Sept’06 to be considered for priority. Bus services to Delft have been arranged to coincide with the boat services. EDUCATION Boycott of schools in the peninsula is continuing demanding the opening of the A-9 highway. DISPLACEMENT Displaced life is still continuing. The seven welfare centres in the Chavakadcheri town area are provided with drinking water by bowsers. CURFEW LIFTED HOURS: Curfew has been lifted from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. in Valigamam, Island, Thenmaradchy and Vadamaradchy divisions.
