Today the focus has shifted to permanent housing and Caritas-HUDEC was the first organization in Northern Sri Lanka to start the construction work last September.  Within a month’s time over 140 houses had been started.  As yet, Caritas-HUDEC has been assigned the building of over 1,000 houses by the authorities.

Each house is 500 square feet plinth size with a veranda, two rooms, a kitchen with open chimney, toilet, equipped with electricity, water and sewerage facilities, at an average unit cost of 850,000 LKR (7,080 Euros)
