CREATING SELF ASSURANCE AND RELIANCE AMONG
CHILDREN AFFECTED BY TSUNAMI WAVES

Because of the events of 26th December 2004 when the Tsunami tidal waves rolled on to the interior of the coastlands and washed away houses, killed people and children, our society is encountering a new huge problem.

Introduction:
A large number of children have lost both their parents and some others have lost their father or mother. Children who were already without one parents have lost the other parent to the waves and thus orphaned.  These children require the following:

Shelter:
A place to live in and go about their affairs peacefully and be self-assured.

Food and Clothing:
These are the basic needs, which a child cannot find by itself.

Love and care:
These children while they have lost loved ones are in a state of shock as they have witnessed and experienced disaster personally. These children should be consoled in their day to day life by caring for them in a special way. The affection expected of the missing parent or siblings could not be provided by any one. But every effort should be taken to make them feel at ease and feel that they are loved, cared and wanted.

The futures of these children are so bleak that unless someone takes the initiative to foster love, friendship and give them a feeling of self-assurance and safety. These children's interests have to be attended to in many spheres. Having created self-assurance in the minds of these children they should be provided all facilities for proper education. Hence this appeal to help us in this most needed humanitarian activity.

Proposals:

01)

Opening of homes for these children.

02) Accommodate these children in hostels run by priests and nuns who run educational institutions.
03) To seek out the relatives of the children and persuade them to keep the children with them, care for them and provide material help for this purpose.
04) Organise psychosocial programs to liberate the children from their traumatic experience.
05) Provide all the needed facilities for these children to pursue their education without any hindrance or worries.
06) Enable these children to encounter and mingle with children who also have had these experiences.
